Electronic learning :A revolution in education

May 15, 2009 By: admin Category: Management Programs No Comments →

E-learning or electronic learning brings a new dimension to the science of teaching, especially in vocational education. Electronic learning is only based on computer technology. You get all the teaching materials, guidelines and other instructions through the Internet. No direct communication will be there.

The courses are usually arranged in that way through which students get sufficient and useful study materials on that particular subject. Also you get some information about the methodical record and application regarding the subject. While doing the course you should be prompt and careful because the process is continual and rapid. You have to be proficient enough to pick it up fast. Of late, lots of organizations give some on line vocational training to their employees. They found it much more effective than any other general training. In this way they can also give training to a large number of employees all together. Now a days many universities also have started their e-learning courses. A lot of students have been benefited by the courses provided by the institutes..

There are also some drawbacks. As there is no direct interaction,a student sometimes fail to understand properly . The process also does not have any way to control cheating. It also can not give that high slandered study maintained in the institutions as no knowledgeable teacher is guiding you. Apart from some minor shortcomings E-learning process is definitely an important step towards the modern life. And it is believed that in coming future it will surely overcome all the difficulties and become really a useful medium.

An MBA in 2 days

April 17, 2009 By: admin Category: Career Courses, Management Programs, thoughts on education 4 Comments →

Yes, you read it correct. 2 days. The outcome of the course is a unique thing called “Pocket MBA”. The recession has sparked the mad rush for people who want to get an MBA under their belt. Renowned programs like the Sloan school of management at MIT and others have reported an increase in numbers of students. However none are so audacious to claim success in an MBA program lasting only 2 days. The Hult International Business School’s Dubai MBA program has introduced this “innovation”. The program is only for executives who would like to get a taste of what the complete MBA program at Hult is all about. The complete MBA program is of one year duration and is reportedly one of the better known programs in the world.

Makes you wonder. Has an MBA become so much of a commodity that it can be taught piecemeal at colleges for a fee, and that too for two days? No possible good can come out of a program that lasts two days. 2 days are generally reserved for intensive workshops which are attended by experienced professionals. An MBA which needs to be rigorous cannot be held in anything less than two years.

Drop in Executive Education takers

April 13, 2009 By: admin Category: Career Courses, Management Programs No Comments →

Executives studying for an MBA at the expense of the companies at which they are employed have seen enthusiastic response over the years. Cometh the recession, with other changes, this trend too has seen a change. Gone are the days when employers did not have second thoughts in paying for the education at premier institutes for deserving students. Also the job prospects on completing the course is not too rosy at the moment. There has been a substantial decrease ( 11%) in the salaries at which people start off after completing the executive education program. Some put it to the inability of the executive to leverage his previous experience and his contacts. However it is pretty apparent that even though there is an element of truth in this assertion, there is simply less money that the companies are willing to spend on their employees. Hence however qualified and skillful a person, this is simply not the best time to go for the Executive MBA.

Nurturing the Adolescent

April 02, 2009 By: admin Category: Management Programs, thoughts on education 2 Comments →

To study the psychology of adolescent students is always an exciting arena to delve into. For adolescent students their beliefs regarding school and society take parallel lanes. It is a time when they develop individuality, intellectualism and competence. The role of the school becomes integral in helping adolescent students deal with the transition, otherwise a strong disregard towards the school system and a lack of motivation might occur. This has a great impact in shaping their self esteem when they step into adulthood. It has been seen that a frequent change in teachers for adolescent students may make it difficult for the student to form a supportive relationship.

When a school environment fails to nurture creativity and ideas in adolescent students and forces them to suit into a pre set environment it might lead to motivational issues for the adolescent. The learning environment should be flexible and interesting for an adolescent that also inculcates learning and mixing with peers. During the transition years the adolescent’s relation with friends, family and teachers also evolve as they begin to turn aware of their roles and responsibilities as adults. Hence it is important that adolescent students are dealt sensitively. Assuring adolescent students that they are capable of more, encouraging discussions and sharing and giving them opportunities to think forms the pivotal task for schools for treating adolescent students.

IIMs and IITs find accommodations for their growing number of students

March 31, 2009 By: admin Category: Management Programs No Comments →

I just came to know that IIMs and IITs are leasing property outside their campus to expand capacity to accommodate the increased number of students due to increased quota requirement this academic year. IIMC who will accommodate 90 extra students this year, said it is talking to the developers for leasing rooms on long lease for six to nine months. IIM-Bangalore is taking lease of 50 apartments (150 rooms) in a nearby residential building called Ajmera Complex. The students studying Executive Post Graduate Program in Management will be given accommodation in the leased apartments. IIM- Bangalore received Rs 29 crore from the Human Resource Development ministry for OBC quota expansion, however the overall expenses is expected to be much greater.

IIMs implement quota in four categories – OBC 27%, SC 15 %, ST 7.5% and Handicapped 3%. IITK actually doubled its seats by adding another 120 seats this year. IIT Delhi who also expanded seats by 30%, is actually planning to expand its campus and is waiting for Rs 100 crore. So with increased number of students IIM are still in the process of finding accommodation for the students. Since these students will have to spend a significant amount of time with their books, they can not accommodate in a place away from the campus.
