Film shows in schools are educative and entertaining at the same time. In our Calcutta Boys’ School each of the students contributed for a projector for the school. It was in the late 1970s when we got this projector. Computer with digital projector was an obscure dream, and even color television sets in India were just about introduced. Cinema was the most popular form of entertainment and halls going house full was common. To avoid disappointments movie tickets were bought 2/3 days in advance. Weekend tickets were sold on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

With cinema shows out of reach for many of the primary and middle school students, a projector appeared a boon for many of us. Most of the films shown were based on classics and were enjoyable.
