Julia Gillard, the Australian deputy Prime Minister has come up with a number of initiatives in her latest visit to India. She also heads the ministries of education, employment and workplace relations and social inclusion. She has proclaimed that funding, to the tune of $8.106 million, which is equivalent of INR 32 crores, has been realized for the purpose of supporting the Australia-India Institute.

The Australia–India Institute is supposed to work in close conjunction with the Australia-India Business Council. This organization would be supporting trade and investment on a mutual basis, which will be beneficial for both the countries from the point of view of economy. The Australia–India Institute would also be looking after issues that concern national priority. It would be staging international conferences as well. It would engage in cultural exchanges and community activities as well.

Julia Gillard has also opened a diploma in primary education. This course would be conducted at the Indira Gandhi National Open University or IGNOU. This program has been developed in conjunction by the Queensland University of Technology at Australia and the IGNOU. It is supposed to give the students a thorough understanding of an appropriate syllabus for primary schools. The skills that are needed to make these syllabi effective would also be in focus in this course.

Julia Gillard has opined that this program is supposed to be beneficial to the teachers at primary levels in India. She has also expressed that the Australian government strictly condones any form of violence perpetrated against any student of any ethnicity in Australia as it is a multicultural nation where there is acceptance for all.
