I salute You!

September 12, 2008 By: srijita Category: Teacher's Day No Comments →

Often my parents used to tell me that since I have a good elocution skills, communicative power and love for academics, I should aspire to become a teacher.

Whenever they told me so, I always sprang up to the fear that I shall have to patiently deal with the students month after months. Years after years I shall have to teach the same subject, same chapter to the new students! Thereafter, flashed the faces of my favorite teachers, who made life fascinating with Maths lessons, English stories, geography maps… and many more.

I salute you Sir and Mam! It is a special expertise with which you made every class rekindled with life! We travelled across the world during the Geography lessons; you made the boring Maths equations amusing and made English.. the world of my dreams.

Not all so-called teachers have this art! It is something one naturally has and with which stands apart from the entire lot of drab, draconian and pestering teachers.

“A teacher is like spring, who nurtures new green sprouts,
Encourages and leads them, whenever they have doubts” By Joanna Fuchs

On the eve of teacher’s day I take pleasure in thanking all my dear loving teachers who have guided me through all my days in schools and taught me right from wrong. Even in your wrath I now realize the love and concern lurking behind. Wishing all my teachers since kindergarten days a very happy teacher day.

On the occasion of teacher’s day let us all do something special in honor of our dear teachers who have contributed so much to what we are today. Even though we have come a long way since our school days, still there are so many different ways in which we can show appreciation to our teachers.

On this teacher’s day, why not give a surprise gift or simply make a call to your old school teacher. Little gestures can evoke so much joy and happiness and our teachers will always appreciate anything that we do for them with love.

Teacher’s Day celebrations at School

August 27, 2008 By: nanditam Category: Teacher's Day No Comments →

Teacher’s day during my schools time used to be a whole lot of fun as we put up small skits and other programs to entertain our teachers. I remember we used to take time off from our classes around two weeks before teachers day to practice for the program that was to be held on the main day. Some of us would put up a dance show, while others sang group or solo numbers.

On the final arrival of teachers’ day, the atmosphere in the school campus was one of cheerfulness and lots of activity as everybody got ready for the days events. Teachers would come in their beautiful sarees or suits and interact informally with the students. With the approaching of teacher’s day, I remember with much fondness the good old days in school.

An ode to my teachers

“I bet you’ve tied a million shoes and dried a million tears
and given out a million hugs, as a teacher, through the years.

In my child’s life, the role you’ve played, has been a priceless part
and you must know the special place, You hold in my child’s heart” (Sharon Harper Sampson)

These words hold true for me as it does for all those who have fond memories of their teachers and appreciate all that they have done for us while we were growing up to face the real world. A very happy teachers day and may your words of wisdom guide me through my most memorable moments as well as the darkest days of my life.

Teacher’s Day –then & now

August 22, 2008 By: nanditam Category: Teacher's Day No Comments →

5th September is celebrated as Teacher’s Day all over India and is also the birthday of Dr. Radhakrishnan, second President of India, who was also a literary scholar and teacher. Teachers Day as it is known today is celebrated in honor of that great teacher and former president of India.

During our school days, teacher’s day had a special significance and the respect we had for our loving teachers was something that is rare in today’s world. Teachers were more than mere instructors who gave grades. They were like our philosopher and guide who protected us at every step and guided us in all our decisions. Today the essence of what we call teacher day is somehow lost. With everything getting commercialized, Teachers Day today is just another occasion to sell cards and what’s worse …sell e-cards. How impersonal!!!

It is also the birthday of renowned scholar and diplomat Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. All of us have fond memories of teacher’s day celebrations at our schools. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my teacher’s back at school. We have received a lot from you and learnt a lot as well. You have been there with us every time we needed your help. Wish you all a very happy teacher’s day.

With teacher’s day approaching, I take this opportunity to thank all my dear teachers right from my kindergarten days to the wonderful days at college. While in school teachers day for me was just a nice holiday when we had some fun and sang and danced for our teachers.
